An Amazing Mt. Bike Ride, with Some Amazing Teens

I decided to hang out with the oldest cabin group yesterday, and come to find out, they were heading to the Mountain Bike Trails of Durango.  I don't know if you know about Mountain Biking in Durango, but this community is one of the greatest Mountain Biking towns in America.

Several past Olympians live right here in our back yard, and the community Mountain Biking program is managed by an organization called Trails 2000, which is one of the premiere community Trail System programs in the country.

In any event, we decided we were going to head out and hit the trails together.

It's always a bit interesting to see who can actually ride, and who just wants to go out for a leisurely view. So each time we load up the bikes, we make sure we know who can ride, and who is just in it for a good time.

We decided to head out to Phil's World, a trail system outside of town with great views, and incredible rolling hills.

I decided to take the back group and hang out with the guys from sea level, and it was an amazing time of getting to know a couple of teenagers that never knew about Camp KIVU.  They live in Birmingham. Alabama, and one of them said, "Yea, we saw it on the website, and one of our friends literally said, 'you'll love it' so we decided to sign up and come on out here.  This is our first time to be in Colorado."

WOW, can you believe that?  First time to Colorado and here we are riding some of the best trails in the world.  What a first start!

Every now and then, we'd stop to walk up some hard hills, and take a water break.  These are probably the most interesting moments of the trip, as we had a chance to talk about everything from what's going on back home, to theological questions the kids had about Revelation, Daniel, and what it means to follow Jesus when your friends don't want to.

I've always said, KIVU is a place we can use as a vehicle to develop relationships with teenagers, and then show them by our actions what it means to Love God and Love Others.  We're not about telling so much, as we are about showing what it might be like in their world.

When we got to the top of Phil's World, I decided to take a picture.  As you can see, there are some serious bikers here, and some who are just starting to learn how to shift gears.  No matter!!  We're all in this for a good time, and at the end of the day the fellas just kept saying, "WOW, this is AMAZING!!"

All in All, it was an AMAZING day.  I'm thankful for so many new friendships, rekindling old ones, and watching as teenagers explore new adventures everyday.  We'd love for you to join us.  If you're interested in having an incredible summer two weeks in Colorado, just visit www.campkivu.com, and sign up today!!
