Is it heating up where you are?

Summer is here, and I'm wondering, is it heating up where you are?

Located in the foothills of the San Juan Mountains, KIVU is a place where you can escape.  We offer teenagers the chance to experience Rock Climbing, White Water Rafting, Lake Fun on Big Ski Boats and Wave runners, and Back Country living.  With a modern base camp facility, teenagers can even hunker down and just relax for the time they are here.

We've also been helping students wade through a spiritual journey where they can discover the Christian Worldview and own their own faith.  With so many students going off to the University rejecting the basic tenants of honest Biblical Faith, our counselors provide a 15 year proven process to help Teenagers with their confidence in knowing what they believe, why they believe it, and how to Love people back home in their community.

We are committed to providing the "Best Of" Teenage experience in summer camping, and if you're looking for a place to breathe in the summer, take a second and scroll through the blog, or visit our website at http://www.campkivu.com.  You're just a couple of clicks away from registering for a summer adventure your kids will never forget.

It's not too late to register, and we'd welcome the opportunity to host your teenagers and your family in the cool Colorado Summertime life.

See you soon!!  The Weather is COOL out here!

Crazy Duck Tape

Well, first of all, I have always thought that it was called "duct tape," but I just looked at the name on the tape and it says Duck Tape.  Who knew?

Anyway, why am I posting about duck tape?!?  Well, for those of you Kivu campers and parents who have flown home from Kivu in the past, you know why!  Each flight gets its own duck tape color and the duck tape goes on the campers luggage so that as we load up 100+ campers and their bags into the vans and buses to go to the airports, their luggage gets on the same flight as the owner!

So, I was in town today and I found all of this fun duck tape and I am so excited for a transportation day!  Last year we had many colors, but they were plain colors--not this summer!  This summer we have flowers and animal print and penguins and paint splashes and all kinds of designs!  Basically, I cannot wait for campers to get here and this is my outlet of anticipation today!

Six more days!!!

Staff Training Week 2012

Staff training has begun!  Today is one week until campers start arriving and we are getting the camp and the staff ready!

Yesterday was the 12th annual KCO & KIVU participation in the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic (bike race from Durango to Silverton) followed by our staff picnic and picture at Andrew's Lake.  It was a great start to our Staff Training Week!

We have a great staff this summer and we are so excited for the campers to arrive!!!  But for the next six days, we will be pulling weeds, moving rocks, getting trained in activities and protocol, planning parties and building relationships with one another and growing deeper in our relationship with the Lord.

Get ready for a great summer here at KIVU TODAY!

Gap Year To Go To India

I am so excited about what the Gap Year will hold for the students during the 2012-2013 year!  As you are thinking about Graduation and preparing your kids to go to college, I honestly believe that you should consider the Kivu Gap Year.  Kids aren't ready for college.  Period.  They need a year to grow and explore and change.  I think that the Kivu Gap Year is not only a safe place for this to occur, but I think it is the smartest option because you are giving your graduate the opportunity to explore the world and let their beliefs be molded along the way.

This year, along with the Denver stint and their international times in Haiti, Rwanda, Kilimanjaro and the Philippines, we will be adding a month in India!  The kids will get to work with an NGO in Bangalore as well as enjoy the beaches of Goa and explore the sites of the Golden Triangle including the Taj Mahal.  It is going to be a super addition to the GY for the coming year!

Doctors & Nurses Needed

We have a few weeks where we need doctors and nurses this summer!  Parents, if you are a doctor or an RN or if you know a doctor or an RN please read on and spread the word!

Doctors:  come to Kivu with your family to relax in Colorado!  We need you to be available for 2 sick calls each day, but other than that, you can use it as a vacation in Durango or you can hop on board any of our biking or rafting trips each day or enjoy fishing on the stocked Pine River that runs through camp.  If you need a letter from our CPA that you donated your time to a 501(c)3, we will do that for you!

RNs:  come on out and live in the health center and love on our campers!  Come alone or bring a nursing friend and serve together!  If you have a Kivu age child, we can give you money towards tuition for the time you work.

Please pass this along to your friends!  It is important that we have these positions filled this summer so that we can help your campers while they are here with us. . .everyone needs a little TLC from time to time!
