Kitchie Bonding, Take 2

As a kitchen staff, we LOVE what we do: cooking food, serving campers, cleaning dishes, and singing really loud to Justin Bieber. Though most of this work takes place inside the Warming Hut, our view of camp and the surrounding ridges allows us to appreciate the incredible beauty here at Kivu. So while we work hard in the Hut, we also all have a very healthy appreciation for the outdoor activities that are so readily available in Colorado.

A few times each term I take the kitchies (our kitchen staff) out to do something fun, and one of our outings this week was a hike into the Weminuche Wilderness. We packed our water bottles and strapped on our trusty Chacos, then headed to a nearby campground where a trail picks up. What an incredible blessing it was to spend time in God's creation with these women! We hiked for a bit and then found a great spot that overlooked the river and smelled of fragrant pine. We stopped here to have Bible study, talk about the life of Christ, and apply it to our own walks of life. Wow! After this term, I can say with absolute confidence that we have hired some of the best staff in the history of my time at camp; they are full of wisdom, demonstrate a desire for growth, and have a real heart for teenagers. In other words, we've had a dream team in the kitchen this term! Next week some of them will be heading into the cabin as counselors, so rest assured if your child is coming to camp third term. They are in excellent hands, and we are SO excited for them to get here. I'm sad to see second term coming to an end, but we're going out with a bang! Tomorrow is our last full day and it's a fun one, so check back for updates and photos soon.

Hanna, Allie, Ashley Ann, Caki, and Patce on the trail.

We have laughed SO much this term. These girls are super fun!

The kitchies after successfully finishing our hike. Aren't they cute?

We tested our balance as we used the fallen log to cross the river. It was a success!
