So much learned from global awareness day

Global Awareness day was a day unlike any I have seen at Kivu before. Camp was divided into various countries/ethnicities with campers and staff alike located all over the property. Haiti, Uganda, Philippines, Mexico, and Boulder, CO are a few of the places that campers were "from," complete with bio's and simulation lifestyles. Each person was placed into a stereotype that they were stuck in for the day making each group have a drastically different view from any other.

As the water baron for the third world countries, I had the opportunity to talk to each of the groups as they came to "draw the water from the well." The dynamic between each group was fascinating to watch. The Philippines people were laid back and the African groups would come and go on their own time. To place someone into a stereotype ended up being an emotional and spiritual commitment that I don't think anyone could foresee. By the end of the day each group was invested in who they were. Their worries, their fears, their wealth, their community, and for some the hunger in their stomach. At night that investment turned from internal to external as they got a chance to step back and realize what they had experienced and learned from the day.
