First Term Parent's Night: SUCCESS!!
Parent's night is probably one of the most fun things we do here at KIVU. Sure, we have the Mountain Bikes, Road Bikes, Rafts, Climbing Gear, Backpacks, Parties, Relationships, etc.; but when we get to partner with families from around the world, it's an incredible thing.
Last night, I had a couple of unique parent conversations. Both were extremely thankful for the work we do here. One family lost a father a year ago, and the love their son experienced here was nothing short of miraculous. It didn't matter what happened in the past, the men of KIVU lifted this young boy up and encouraged him the entire week. As I talked with the family last night, I was reminded how integral that love is for all of us. We all need a place where we can feel important, even when life seems tornadic around us.
The next family I spoke with filled me in on the trajectory their daughter has been on this year. "You have no idea how thankful we are your staff took her under their wing. She told me how incredible it was to see men treat women the way they're supposed to be treated. You've painted a picture for my daughter she'll never forget."
It's not like rocket science.
At KIVU we Love God, and Love Others. We treat people with respect. We honor what we say. We look out for the needs of others. And we try not to think of ourselves more highly than we should. We just want to enjoy life together. And it was this picture a precious young girl will keep in her mind from this point forward. She'll remember there are people in the world that care for one another.
She'll never forget there are guys in the world who care for girls.
She'll never look at bullies as the end game, she'll always have room for people who really care.
She'll understand what it means to develop REAL relationships with people outside social media.
She'll be forever ready to take on another adventure, try something she's never done, and be ready to reach out and help others.
Like I said, Parent's night is always fun. To show parents the impact KIVU has on their kids, well...it's nothing short of humbling.
